The highlight of his European tour, before the largest crowd of his campaign. Barack Obama summoned Europeans and Americans to unite to “defeat terror and dry up the well of extremism that supports it” in a speech reminiscent of earlier greats, John F Kennedy and Bill Clinton in Berlin.

John McCain has been quietly going about his business without causing any great ripples – Until his close friend shot him in the foot !
